Godly Mothering

Something often on my mind is being a godly mother.  My children are young, ages two and one.  But I know I have to be laying a Christian foundation now for them.  My husband reads to them from their children’s Bible and we sing little songs to go with the stories.  They love this!  Learning through song has been fun and really seems to help them remember. Not to mention how cute their little voices are when they can sing the words on their own!

I also teach them from the catechism for young children.  Due to their young ages I have even shortened those.  It is exciting for me to see them learn and it is exciting for them to be able to answer my questions.  They feel good when they can give a correct answer.  What a strong foundation they are receiving.  We will be able to build onto the answers and memorize scriptures to go along with them.  Why do I do this?  So they will learn about our LORD and be able, once they are older, to give an account for the hope that is within them (1 Peter 3:15).

Now, you mother’s of young children know how crazy things can get around the home!  These things do not happen every day.  I would love to have a set time for them, and plan on working toward that, but honestly for now we do it when there is time.  Mostly, when I am in the kitchen cooking or we are eating lunch.  I can yell out a question and see if they remember the answer.  Nothing too formal 🙂  I encourage you to give it a try.  Maybe during your next lunch or snack time.  It’s amazing what you can teach while your children are strapped (trapped) in the highchair munching on goldfish.
